My friend, fellow stutterer and previous Stuttering is Cool guest, Philip Garber, was actually told by his teacher not to ask questions in class. Instead, she asked him to write his questions down and ignored him every time he raised his hand. While her intentions may have been well meaning, it’s another example that we still need to educate the public about our misunderstood and “invisible” disability.

It strikes me as odd that a teacher would try to discourage a stuttering student from speaking in class. Most stutterers I know, myself included, would clam up. Not Phil. Way to go, brotha!
